Top 5 Sources of Protein

Protein Lately, I’ve been participating in Yahoo answers to try and help people with their health issues. One thing I’ve found that a lot of people have a problem with is finding a good source of protein.

Whether it’s a 13 year old boy trying to bulk up to make it on his soccer team,  a body builder, or someone wanting to become more balanced, everyone needs a healthy source of protein in their lives.

Most people go and get some protein shakes or protein bars, but have you ever stopped and looked at all of the sugar that has been added? I looked on the back of a Tiger’s Milk protein bar and it had 13 grams of sugar!

 

Here’s an example of how much sugar is added in those so called “Energy” bars.

Protein BarIsn’t it amazing how much sugar they can pack into those things?! JEEZ! I bet they are loaded with caffeine too!

Alright, let’s go over the top 5 sources of protein!

 

#5.  Nuts and seeds

You can eat them roasted, chopped, or raw. Raw would be the best choice because when they are in their raw state, they don’t have any missing nutrients that are lost from being roasted or cooked.

#4. Legumes

LegumesLegumes, or beans, are an excellent source of protein. Did you know that if you actually peeled the skin off of beans before eating them that you wouldn’t have issues with gas? Who would go through the trouble of peeling each and every bean though! Haha! :)

#3. Dairy Products

Dairy ProductsThat’s right! Cheese, Milk, Eggs, Yogurt, you name it! They are all high in protein and great for building muscle and energy. Unfortunately, in some cases, dairy products can be very high in fat and can backfire if you aren’t getting the proper amount of exercise you need each and every day.

#2. White Meat

Chicken and Fish

Chicken and Fish are both great sources of protein and are both a pretty lean meat. If a chicken-fish existed, I’m sure it would be a great source of protein as well. I wonder if they would call it a Ficken or a Chish? Tee Hee

#1. Red Meat

Red Meat

Beef Beef Beef! As you all know, Red Meat is a very high source of protein.

A lot of people are against being vegetarian because they think meat is the only way you can get protein. As you can see from my post, there are many different plant-based foods that are excellent sources of protein. Here’s a link for more plant-based sources of protein.

Although meat is a great source of protein, it is also the fattiest way to get it.

If you are using meat to get in your daily dose of protein, make sure you are getting in plenty of exercise every day, you’re going to need it!

    While you are correct with your protein sources, I have to disagree with a number of protein bars. The cheaper bars with throw rubbish into them, i.e. sugars and sweeteners etc but buy a good quality brand and you should be OK. A brand such as MyProtein I highly recommend. Although I now make my own protein bars as 1. it’s a lot cheaper! and 2. I know exactly what I put in them. I’ve even posted my recipe on my blog if you want to make your own.
